Takebayashi Tadashichi Takashige of the Gishi Shijushichi-zu series continues the systematic warrior portraits. Takebayashi, one of the more experienced members of the group who had previously served in military roles before becoming a retainer of the Asano domain, brought practical combat experience to the raid—a distinction that Gekko might have rendered through the confident bearing of a trained fighting man as opposed to the scholars and administrators who made up part of the forty-seven.
