The Kurodani garden in Kyoto in spring presents one of the ancient city's less-visited but most beautiful temple grounds: Kurodani (Konkaiko-myoji), a Jodo sect temple in eastern Kyoto where spring brings cherry blossoms and new foliage to the hillside cemetery and garden. The temple's broad stone-stepped approach and sweeping views of the city give it a grander scale than many Kyoto gardens, and spring light on its ancient stones and budding trees offered Bakufu rich subject matter.
