"Kazue Yamagishi" is a portrait of a specific individual — possibly a personal acquaintance, student, or figure from Onchi's cultural circle. His portrait series was remarkable for its range of subjects: internationally known poets and composers alongside less prominent figures from his personal world, each treated with the same formal seriousness and observational care. The inclusion of private individuals alongside public figures reflects Onchi's democratic approach to portraiture: all human faces deserved the same quality of attention.
