$500–$5,000. Common Biblical prints: $500–$1,500. Key value factors: Watanabe's warm, folk-art Biblical prints have a devoted collector base. Larger formats and earlier works command more.
Daniel in the lion's den — the prophet cast into captivity with the lions for refusing to abandon prayer to his God, preserved unharmed through divine protection — gives Watanabe an opportunity to render one of Scripture's most dramatic confrontations between faith and power. In his katazome treatment, the lions are rendered in the same bold, earth-toned forms as the human figure: powerful but simplified, the narrative's theological point more important than naturalistic animal depiction. Daniel stands composed amid the great cats, faith visible in his stillness.
