Description
The Morning of the Resurrection — the women arriving at the empty tomb to find the stone rolled away and an angel waiting — is one of Christianity's most charged narrative moments, and Watanabe renders it with the particular joy and astonishment that his katazome palette is well suited to express. The women's bold-colored robes and the angel's radiant form create a composition in which the surprise of the empty tomb is registered in the visual language of the mingei tradition: direct, warm, and filled with the energy of an unexpected truth.
