Description
Bare, dark trees with mottled black-and-gray bark rise against a gray background, while the foreground is filled with rounded, textured mounds in rust-orange and a few in dark green. A small figure in a white robe or coat stands alone at the center, dwarfed between the trunks and the mounds. Saito Kiyoshi's 1972 color woodblock print "Garden in Portland" uses a muted, earthy palette and simplified, rounded forms to create a quiet, still atmosphere.
