Description
The 1956 Nostalgia, Boston, edition 7 of 75, was made during or after one of Saito's American residencies—he spent significant time in the United States, exhibiting at universities and building the international reputation that made him one of the most widely collected Japanese printmakers of his era. Boston's red-brick architectural character, its Georgian streetscapes and academic buildings, gave him a very different formal vocabulary than Japan or Paris, and this print likely documents his attempt to find an equivalent geometry in an American city.
