Description
Two seated, shrouded figures fill the composition against a mottled charcoal-grey background with a rough, textured woodgrain effect. The left figure wears a red hood and black wrap with an ochre panel revealing a folded hand; the right wears a black hood and cloak over a white and ochre inner garment, with legs rendered in flat red beneath both figures. Blocky, angular forms and a muted palette of red, black, ochre, white, and grey give the scene a still, huddled mood. "Resting (Mexico)," a woodblock print by Saito Kiyoshi (year unknown).
