A lone leaf presents an opportunity to exploit the full tonal range of water-based mokuhanga pigments: the graduated bokashi technique can move from deep vein shadows to near-translucent membrane zones within a single block pass. The isolation of one specimen against an implied void recalls the compositional economy of kacho-e, though Miyamoto's interest lies less in seasonal symbolism than in the material fact of the object itself.
