Description
"Evening at Ushibori" (1930), a color woodblock print by Takahashi Shotei, shows two silhouetted figures beside a small roadside stall with a blue-and-white checkered awning and a paper lantern; a child in kimono holds up a round fan or lantern toward a seated adult. The scene is dominated by a deep blue-to-tan gradient sky with the dark, drooping fronds of a willow tree overhead and two birds in flight, all figures and foliage rendered as flat dark silhouettes against the graduated ground.
