

Pre-1923 Shotei prints are particularly prized because the Great Kanto Earthquake destroyed original woodblocks along with much of the Watanabe publishing house. Surviving pre-earthquake impressions carry a scarcity premium.
Fishing boats moored at Tsukuda Island in Tokyo Bay, their masts creating a forest of vertical lines against the sky. The scene captures the traditional fishing village atmosphere that once characterized this area of Tokyo before modern development transformed it. The water reflects the boats and sky in subtle, muted tones.
