Shotei produced a wide range of subjects throughout his career under publishers Watanabe and Daikokuya. Signed, sealed lifetime editions consistently outperform unsigned export-market copies.
Nagoya Castle's great tenshu (main keep), topped with its famous golden shachihoko ornaments, rises above the stone walls of one of Japan's largest and most historically significant castle complexes. Shotei's treatment likely emphasizes the castle's physical scale and architectural grandeur, the keep rising against a sky rendered in characteristic [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) depth. The castle was built by Tokugawa Ieyasu and stood as a symbol of Owari domain's wealth and the Tokugawa family's regional power throughout the Edo period.
