

Pre-1923 Shotei prints are particularly prized because the Great Kanto Earthquake destroyed original woodblocks along with much of the Watanabe publishing house. Surviving pre-earthquake impressions carry a scarcity premium.
The famous Nihonbashi Bridge in Tokyo at night, illuminated by the warm glow of lanterns and the cold light of the moon. Figures cross the bridge, their silhouettes casting long shadows on the wooden surface. The contrast between the warm artificial light and the cool moonlight creates a complex play of color and atmosphere.
