Shotei produced a wide range of subjects throughout his career under publishers Watanabe and Daikokuya. Signed, sealed lifetime editions consistently outperform unsigned export-market copies.
Another sudden shower, this time at Takaido in western Tokyo — again designated "Post Quake," situating the scene in the reconstruction period after 1923. The Takaido shower captures a different character of rainstorm than the Koume scene: a suburban area of mixed traditional and modern construction, the shower falling equally on old wooden houses and newer concrete buildings, the rain democratizing the landscape it fell upon. Shotei's rain technique — vertical streaks over a [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi)-treated background — was one of his most copied devices in the [shin-hanga](/glossary/shin-hanga) tradition.
