Key value factors: As self-carved and self-printed works, sosaku-hanga value is tied to the artist's reputation and edition size. Larger formats, earlier editions, and historically significant works command the highest prices.
Hijiribashi — the "Holy Bridge" or "Sage Bridge" — spans the Kanda River in the Ochanomizu district of Tokyo, a neighborhood where private universities cluster on the high ground above the river. Henmi's attention to this bridge, as with his other Tokyo subjects, reflects his systematic documentation of the city's urban infrastructure — its bridges, its crossings, its built transitions between one part of the city and another. The bridge subject allowed him to explore the geometry of engineered form within the natural setting of a river valley.
