Description
Lingering snow — yuki nokori or zansetsu — is a classic Japanese subject that captures the season's hesitation, when winter's last deposits cling to rooftops, garden stones, and north-facing corners while spring advances elsewhere. Tanaka's woodblock rendering focuses likely on a rural architectural subject — a farmhouse roof or village lane — where the remnant snow creates a compositional dialogue between white accumulation and the dark tones of aged timber and earth.
