Description
The Shijo Bridge is one of Kyoto's most frequented crossings over the Kamo River, connecting the city's main commercial thoroughfare with the Gion entertainment district on the eastern bank. Tanaka's woodblock numbered #11 in what may be a Kyoto series captures the bridge's elegant span and its relationship to the wide, shallow river below, the willow-lined embankments, and the view of the Higashiyama hills that frames every crossing in fine weather.
