Description
Tokyo Port Wild Bird Park, from the series "One Hundred Views of Tokyo, Message to the 21st Century" (1989–99), is a late career work made with zinc anastic plate on paper — a hybrid printing method that extended his technical range beyond traditional woodblock. The Wild Bird Park on Tokyo Bay, established on reclaimed land, offered Yoshida a subject that combined his lifelong interest in wildlife with his attachment to the city of his birth, birds finding sanctuary within the industrial port landscape. The series itself, a message to the next century, was one of his most explicitly historical and environmental statements.
