Description
A bare-chested man with a topknot crouches beneath a snow-laden pine branch, one clawlike hand gripping the trunk and the other clutching a pale-blue-green robe draped over his shoulder; snow falls thickly against a dark grey sky. His face is turned in profile with a tense, fierce expression, and flames are visible in the lower right corner beside a red and pale-green title cartouche. This color woodblock oban triptych, titled "The Actor Onoe Kikugoro V as the Priest Sogen (Yuki: Iwakura Sogen Onoe Baiko)" from the series "Snow, Moon, and Flowers (Setsugekka no uchi)," was made by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi in 1890.
