Flying insect

The flying insect—a creature of the brief alpine summer, when warmth above treeline supports a surprising abundance of insect life—represents Azechi's interest in the small-scale occupants of the mountain world alongside its larger human and animal inhabitants. Alpine insects, encountered at altitude, have a particular quality of unexpected presence in an environment that otherwise seems too harsh for such delicate creatures. His bold, simplified rendering would give the flying form a graphic clarity disproportionate to the insect's actual scale.
