$500–$5,000. Common mountain prints: $500–$1,500. Key value factors: Azechi's cheerful mountain prints have consistent demand. Larger and more complex compositions are most valued.
Kamikochi—the famous valley at the heart of the Northern Japan Alps, a glacially carved basin at 1500 meters elevation surrounded by peaks above 3000 meters—was one of the great destinations of Japanese mountaineering and tourist culture. Azechi's Kamikochi print likely shows the valley's distinctive features: the clear Azusa River, the dead trees standing in the marsh near Taisho Pond, the great wall of mountains beyond. The valley served as a base for many of the high climbs his prints celebrated.
