$500–$5,000. Common mountain prints: $500–$1,500. Key value factors: Azechi's cheerful mountain prints have consistent demand. Larger and more complex compositions are most valued.
The 1955 Karasawa—the famous cirque and glacier on the flank of Hotaka-dake in the Northern Alps, accessible from Kamikochi by a strenuous several-hour approach—was one of the great alpine environments of Japanese mountaineering. The Karasawa basin, enclosed by steep rocky walls and containing a permanent snowfield, was a place that shaped the mountain imagination of a generation of Japanese climbers. Azechi's edition 6 of 30, a small run, suggests this was a more experimental or personally important print than his larger-edition commercial work.
