$500–$5,000. Common mountain prints: $500–$1,500. Key value factors: Azechi's cheerful mountain prints have consistent demand. Larger and more complex compositions are most valued.
The 1936 Mount Ishizuchi—the highest peak in western Japan at 1982 meters, located in Azechi's home Ehime Prefecture—represents an early major work in his career, depicting the mountain that was likely his first serious alpine environment. Ishizuchi's rocky summit and the pilgrimage tradition associated with it (it is one of the 88 sacred sites of the Shikoku pilgrimage circuit) gave the mountain both physical and spiritual significance. This early print shows his bold style in its developmental stage.
