The Showa-period Mount Ishizuchi from 1940 returns to his home mountain four years after the earlier print, the subject now rendered in a more fully developed version of his bold graphic style. By 1940 Azechi had been printing seriously for several years and the Ishizuchi of this date shows a more confident reduction of the peak's form than the 1936 version—the mountain's rocky character translated into the clean geometric language he was developing toward its mature expression.
