$500–$5,000. Common mountain prints: $500–$1,500. Key value factors: Azechi's cheerful mountain prints have consistent demand. Larger and more complex compositions are most valued.
The 1953 Mountaineer—a straightforward title for one of his most characteristic figure types—shows Azechi's climber in what may be one of his most formally complete expressions of the archetype. By 1953 his style had achieved the bold, simplified confidence that would define the next four decades: the figure a compact, rounded mass rendered in flat areas of color, the mountain environment abstracted to supporting forms, the whole composition expressing the relationship between human will and alpine fact.
