Description
A hooded figure with a stylized dark face—striped grey-brown skin, wide almond eyes, and bright red lips—stands facing forward in a heavy black robe marked by a single vertical striped panel and patches of dark green. Cradled at the figure's shoulder is a stiff, striped grey-and-white bird with a sharp beak and small dark eye. The background is a mottled grey wash, against which the black robe, muted figure, and small red seal at lower right stand out; *Rescued Bird*, Umetaro Azechi, 1957, woodblock print, ink and color on paper.
