Description
The hexagonal rotating scripture library at Kōkei-zan Temple in Gifu Prefecture is a rare form of Buddhist architectural furniture — a revolving bookcase housing the complete Buddhist canon, designed so that turning it confers the merit of reading every sutra. Hiratsuka's 1952 woodblock renders the hall with precise attention to its unusual form. The structure is a devotional object made architectural.
