Hōrin-ji in Yamato Province — a seventh-century temple in the Nara area associated with Prince Shōtoku — is rendered in Hiratsuka's direct ink-on-paper woodblock style. The 1946 print, made just after the war's end, belongs to his sustained engagement with Japan's oldest Buddhist architecture, the ancient timber buildings of the Asuka period that he returned to throughout his career.
