$500–$8,000. Common later works: $500–$1,500. Key value factors: His enormous output (lived to 102) means most works are accessible. Early black-and-white prints are most valued.
The Kokubun-ji at Hida, in Gifu Prefecture's mountain interior, preserves a three-story pagoda among its precincts. Hiratsuka renders the scene in color — unusual for him — the pagoda's red-lacquered timber rising above surrounding trees. Dating to the early years of his temple print campaign, this 1942 work demonstrates his interest in provincial Buddhist architecture beyond the famous Nara and Kyoto complexes.
