Description
Mt. Fuji before dawn — the mountain emerging from darkness into the first light, its summit visible before its base. Hiratsuka's 1959 woodblock captures this liminal hour with unusual tonal subtlety, the mountain's profile rendered in the compressed range of very early morning. The dawn subject is among his most atmospheric Fuji treatments, departing from the stark clarity of his usual approach.
