Description

Chichibu, deep in the Musashi highlands northwest of Edo, was known for its mountain scenery and the Chichibu Shrine, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the Kanto region. This print from the "One Hundred Famous Views of the Provinces" depicts the rugged interior — a landscape of forested ridges and river valleys quite different from the flat Kanto plain surrounding Edo.
