This shikishiban surimono captures Mount Fuji seen from the hills above Hakone at dawn, its silhouette rising through a blush of early light over layered mist-filled valleys. Produced around 1828-30 in the luxury surimono format — embossed printing, metallic pigments, small limited edition — it represents Kuniyoshi's early engagement with Fuji landscape before Hokusai and Hiroshige's famous Fuji series defined the genre. The composition's intimacy and coloristic restraint distinguish it from the panoramic Fuji views that would dominate the following decade.
