Autumn in Rome — the golden light of October filtering through umbrella pines and falling on ochre walls — translated into Urushibara's woodblock technique. The eternal city in autumn has inspired artists across centuries, and Urushibara's Japanese sensibility for seasonal atmosphere found particular affinity with Rome's mellowed autumnal palette.
