Description
A bridge spanning the Quai Poterie — one of several Bruges quayside prints from the remarkable 1919 series. The Quai Poterie (pottery quay), named for the ceramic workshops once clustered there, sits along one of Bruges' inner canals. Urushibara's bridge composition, rendered in the flat color planes and precise outline that distinguish his European work, captures the particular character of Flemish canal architecture: the low stone bridge, the stepped gables reflected in the water, the heavy sky above.
