Key value factors: As self-carved and self-printed works, sosaku-hanga value is tied to the artist's reputation and edition size. Larger formats, earlier editions, and historically significant works command the highest prices.
Shirahige Bridge in Tokyo, spanning the Sumida River with its distinctive tied-arch structure, depicted in woodblock on paper by Fujimaki Yoshio. The bridge, completed in 1931, was a modern engineering marvel when Fujimaki likely encountered it, its graceful arches rising above the river in a neighborhood rich with Edo-period history. Fujimaki captures the contrast between the bridge's sleek steel curves and the older, lower-scale urban fabric surrounding it. As a companion piece to his other bridge prints, this work confirms Fujimaki's sustained interest in the visual drama of modern infrastructure set against traditional waterway landscapes of eastern Tokyo.
