Samurai on Horse, printed in 1980 using ink and color on paper, presents the mounted warrior — one of the most compositionally dynamic subjects in the Japanese visual tradition — with the energy and boldness that characterized Mori's later work. The horse in motion, bearing an armored warrior with weapons displayed, combined the visual drama of equestrian action with the rich surface detail of warrior equipment.
