Cherry Blossoms at Koganei, Outskirts of Tokyo
by Yuhan Ito

Description
Cherry trees in full bloom line the banks of the Tama River at Koganei on the western outskirts of Tokyo, their blossoms arching over the water in a tunnel of pink and white in this spring landscape by Yuhan Ito. Koganei's cherry blossoms were famous enough to draw crowds from the city center, and the site appeared in prints by multiple artists across the Meiji and Showa eras. Ito captures the blossoms at their most extravagant moment, using the trees to frame and soften the view of the water beyond.
