$400–$3,000. Common subjects: $400–$1,000. Key value factors: Okuyama's prints are relatively affordable. Bold, well-preserved examples are most valued.
"Myougiyama" (Myogi Mountain) depicts one of Japan's most dramatic rocky mountain formations — the jagged, heavily eroded peaks of the Myogi mountain range in Gunma Prefecture, designated a Quasi-National Park for their spectacular scenery. Myogi's characteristic feature is its succession of wildly irregular rock spires and ridges, quite unlike the smooth volcanic cone of Fuji, making it one of Japan's most visually distinctive mountain subjects. Okuyama's sosaku-hanga treatment of this dramatic landscape would have exploited the woodblock medium's capacity for rendering the hard textures of rock and the atmospheric depth of mountain views.
