$400–$3,000. Snow and night scenes tend to command premium prices for this artist. Key value factors: Okuyama's prints are relatively affordable. Bold, well-preserved examples are most valued.
"Snow Landscape" presents the Japanese countryside under snow as an abstract visual subject as much as a representational one — the white covering that flattens and simplifies the landscape into broad masses, sharp shadows, and the occasional dark accent of tree trunk or roof edge. Okuyama's snow landscapes are among his most compositionally concentrated works: the reduced palette of white, grey, and the dark of shadows and vegetation forces a formal clarity that his more colorfully complex subjects did not always demand. Snow made him a more rigorous composer.
