"Tokyo Nihonbashi Bridge" (Tokyo Nihonbashi) presents one of Tokyo's most historically significant landmarks — the stone bridge that stood at the center of the Edo/Tokyo road network, the point from which all distances in Japan were once officially measured. Nihonbashi (Japan Bridge) had been Japan's commercial heart since the Edo period, lined with wholesale merchants and the starting point of the great highways that connected the capital to all provinces. Okuyama's rendering of this landmark bridges the historical and the contemporary in a single image.
