$500–$8,000. Snow and night scenes tend to command premium prices for this artist. Key value factors: Hagiwara's abstract works are collected by both Japanese print and modern art collectors.
Evening Sky, Mt. Fuji (1990–91) renders the mountain in the golden-hour light that photographers and painters had always found most favorable — the sun dropping toward the western horizon while Fuji's eastern face remains in the warm light that deepens its profile against the darkening sky. Hagiwara's treatment pushes the observation toward color abstraction, the graduated sky ranging from deep blue at the zenith through the complex warm tones of the sunset to the mountain's familiar outline below. The evening sky series explored the mountain as pure presence in changing light.
