$500–$8,000. Common later works: $500–$2,000. Key value factors: Hagiwara's abstract works are collected by both Japanese print and modern art collectors.
Projection of Mt. Fuji (1990–91) renders the mountain not as an observed landscape feature but as a projected image — the mind's or culture's imposition of the mountain's iconic profile onto the visual field, whether or not the physical mountain is present. The "projection" of the title suggests both the act of throwing an image onto a surface and the psychological process of projecting meaning onto the world. Hagiwara's treatment of Fuji as cultural projection rather than natural fact was one of his most conceptually sophisticated late-career moves.
