$500–$8,000. As part of a celebrated series, this print benefits from strong collector demand. Good abstract prints: $2,500–$5,000. Key value factors: Hagiwara's abstract works are collected by both Japanese print and modern art collectors.
Thirty-six Views of Fuji: Way to Okino — from a series that explicitly invoked the tradition of Hokusai's celebrated Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji — rendered the path to the Okino area of the Fuji Five Lakes region as one viewpoint within Hagiwara's own extended engagement with the mountain. The homage to Hokusai was both sincere and transformative: Hagiwara's [sosaku-hanga](/glossary/sosaku-hanga) technique produced very different results from the [ukiyo-e](/glossary/ukiyo-e) method, and his abstract sensibility produced very different images from Hokusai's realistic ones, even when viewing the mountain from similar angles.
