Temple and shrine subjects are among the most consistently popular categories in Yoshida's output. Standard jizuri prints of temple subjects cluster around $2,149 (dealer price benchmark from 1stDibs), with Chion-in Temple Gate listed at $3,600 and Toshogu Shrine in standard jizuri condition at approximately $2,149. Night or seasonal variants of temple subjects command additional premiums.
At Nezugaseki on the Sea of Japan coast in Yamagata Prefecture, a torii gate dedicated to Benten — the goddess of the sea, music, and eloquence — stands at the water's edge, the sacred gateway framing the open sea beyond. Yoshida's 1939 print captures the torii's vermillion form against the grey-blue of the Japan Sea, the coastal setting combining religious imagery with the dramatic seascape environments he returned to throughout his career. The gate marks the liminal space between land and ocean, sacred and profane.
