Description

The Kailasa Temple at Ellora is one of the most extraordinary feats of ancient architecture — carved entirely from a single basalt cliff face in Maharashtra during the 8th century, it is arguably the largest monolithic structure in the world. Yoshida visited India in 1931 and was immediately drawn to sites that combined spiritual magnitude with sculptural achievement. His print conveys the temple's overwhelming verticality and the deeply shadowed relief carvings that cover its surfaces, filtered through the exquisite color control of traditional Japanese woodblock technique.
