The brook at Hiyoshi Shrine — one of the sacred streams that run through the precincts of Hiyoshi Taisha (also known as Hie Shrine) at the foot of Mount Hiei in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture. This ancient shrine complex, one of the most important in the Kansai region, is traversed by clear mountain streams that add to the sacred atmosphere of the forested hillside. Nisaburo's depiction of this shrine brook emphasizes the pure water, the stone channel, and the sacred trees that mark the boundary between human settlement and divine presence.
