Description
Snowy Village — a composition depicting a traditional Japanese settlement under snow, the thatched or tiled roofs bearing white loads that alter the usual silhouette of the buildings. Snow scenes (yukimi or setsu) in Japanese landscape art carry associations of stillness, isolation, and a beauty that is heightened by the knowledge of cold and hardship beneath the aesthetic surface.
