Description
Snowy Village in woodblock — a finished woodblock version of the snowy village subject, complementing the other version in the collection. The two snowy village prints may depict different settlements or the same village from different perspectives or in different stages of snowfall. The woodblock medium's capacity for rich darks and precise white areas — achieved through the absence of printing on those areas of the washi paper — makes it particularly suited to snow scene depiction, where the interplay of covered and uncovered surfaces is the fundamental compositional logic.
