Description
Lehigh Gap in Pennsylvania marks the point where the Appalachian Trail descends sharply to cross the Lehigh River before climbing the opposite ridge. The gap's distinctive geological character — steep rocky faces stripped of significant vegetation on the southern exposure — would give a mokuhanga composition a more austere, mineral quality than the forested mountain summits elsewhere in the series. Printed on [washi](/glossary/washi), the print likely contrasts the hard angularity of exposed rock with the softer rendering of water and distant treeline. [Bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) gradations across the sky or river surface would provide tonal counterweight to the terrain's severity, and the bold topographic forms would suit the direct, reduced language Amoss appears to employ across this body of work.
