Description
Mount Greylock, the highest point in Massachusetts at 3,491 feet, anchors the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail in that state. The summit is frequently wreathed in cloud and mist, and the surrounding mixed hardwood and boreal forest changes dramatically across seasons. Printed in mokuhanga on [washi](/glossary/washi), the composition would likely render the broad, rounded summit profile characteristic of the Berkshires, distinct from the sharper peaks of the southern Appalachians. Water-based pigments allow for the soft atmospheric blending appropriate to New England's frequently overcast mountain conditions. The print belongs to Amoss's systematic documentary approach to Appalachian Trail landmarks, translating each location's specific topographic and atmospheric character into the mokuhanga vocabulary.
